The Right Rug for the Right Room. Here’s Some Different Types and Designs.

Flat-weave rugs

Flat-weave rugs are made with a horizontal pile rather than vertical, this makes them very durable and easy to clean. These rugs are popular in kitchens and high traffic areas.

The flat-weave rugs, depending on what they’re made of, also tend to be cheaper than the plush-pile and shaggy rugs.

Nature Design Rugs

Nature design rugs that have flower or leaf designs were quite popular in the past, however, cow hides are still very popular in today decor trends. With bright colours or patterns nature rugs add “life” to a room. It gives the feel that, although inside, you are sitting in the garden.

Glamour Rugs

Glamour Rugs with a shimmer or shine to them make rooms have an impact and create a sense of importance or wealth. These rugs shine due to the viscose fibres, making the rugs have different shades depending on which direction the pile is.

Organic and Eco

Organic and Eco rugs are generally made of jute or sisal, where the fibres create a unique asymmetrical pattern. Jute rugs tend to be natural colours making them suit most colour palettes, although new updated technology enables the successful dying of natural fibre rugs much easier with colours.

Geometric Rugs

Rugs with geometric shapes are quite prominent in modern or retro home decor. The trendy shapes, colours and designs add an impact to any room.

Hand-knotted and Hand-loomed

Hand-knotted rugs take up to a year to make, where they are made all by hand. This generally makes hand-knotted rugs more expensive due to the hours gone into making it. Whereas hand-loomed rugs are made using a mechanised tool, where it takes about two to three days to complete a rug.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Choosing the size of the rug is sometimes just as hard as picking the rug. Selecting the size can be based on the furniture that’s going to size on it; i.e. a dinning table. You would want to have a rug that fills the space of the dining table and chairs. A large light coloured rug generally makes the room feel larger; whereas a darker rug will make a room feel smaller and cosy. To find a size for your room, grab a bed sheet and fold it to a size that suits.
