Persian Rugs

Persian rugs are beautiful and they can last a lifetime, occasionally families actually *inherit* a Persian Rug that is passed down from generation to generation. Why is this? It’s simple – it is because Persian Rugs are made from the highest quality materials by experienced craftsmen.

Throughout the long history of Persian rugs there has been very little change to the rugs – often the craftsmen of today were taught by their family members who were taught in turn by their grandparents or great grandparent. It’s thanks to these many generations that the dying process, patterns and colour combinations have grown to produce the Persian rugs you see today. Many Persian rugs were made using wool and although many believed that traditional rugs were made using silk, wool was the common fiber so most of the carpets were and have been made using wool.

In the past rugs were created using natural dyes to colour the wool as they provided a warm tone that synthetic dyes can’t match. The colours in a rug using a synthetic dye will tend to look washed out over time while natural ingredient colours look softer and will look even more appealing as they get older.

Scattermats stock a range of beautiful Persian rugs, Oriental and traditional Turkish rugs – you are sure to find a rug that suits your style, tastes and budget.

Traditionally Persian rugs were made by the same family for generations and each family would design its own special pattern or design they would use in every rug. These designs were unique and no other rug maker would use them – effectively each family had its own *brand*. These carpets were made for the floor – for people to sit on, lie on or walk on.

You can clean your Persian rug from Scattermats by taking it outside and allowing it to *air*, this will help remove any *odors* a rug might collect after sitting for a long time. You can also hang them up and beat them to remove accumulated dust. Before washing in water check the label or contact Scattermats for help.
